Recent Projects

First Steps-North Elba Child Care

The Child Care Subcommittee's goal is to build an endowed fund over time through acombination of grants and private donations. This is a continuous activity, and donations will accrue over time. Funds will be distributed to interested organizations that provide high-quality infant and toddler childcare to families who live and work in North Elba. This project fulfills the basic community need for accessible, high-quality childcare while also helping to address employer and workforce childcare challenges in our community. High-quality childcare can support children's social, emotional, and cognitive development and improve their long-term academic and economic success.

Lake Placid Community Ski Program

The goal of this project is to provide youth scholarships to Lake Placid Elementary students interested to participate in a 10-week "learn to ski" program at the Mt. Van Hoevenberg ORDA venue. The students will work with trained ski instructors, following directions and working as a team. The benefits of the program include stress reduction, improved balance and coordination, and concentration.

In Memory of Gene Gengel

Gene was a dedicated member of Rotary for 60 years, serving as treasurer, president, and district governor during his tenure, and raising money to eradicate polio, sponsoring exchange students from around the world, and bringing clean water to communities in need. He will be remembered for his patience, his dry humor, his quiet leadership, and his ability to make even the most mundane road trip into an epic adventure.

The Tina Leonard Award

Tina M. Wilson Leonard, 63, of Lake Placid, passed away unexpectedly and peacefully on Sept. 26, 2021. Tina was a Lake Placid native who personified kindness, hard work, and community activism. Although her life was too short, it was filled with purpose and meaning daily. Although Tina Leonard may have passed away, her spirit will remain with each person that ever had the pleasure of knowing her. Your support of The Tina Leonard Award keeps Tina's legacy and spirit alive as it will recognize young persons in our community who are overcoming obstacles and achieving success. The Rotary Club of Lake Placid, the Lake Placid Central School District and, of course, Tina's family, plans to make this award annually. Even though Tina lost her sight in her later years, her perseverance to not let this stop her from becoming a successful real estate broker. The recipients of The Tina Leonard Award will have that same determination and we hope this award will help them achieve their goals.

Kendall Hartson LeMay Dog Park

The Adirondack Civics Club, sponsored by LPNYRF, needs your help creating a welcoming riverside dog park where dogs can exercise, socialize, and bring people together. The Town of Jay has donated the field at 23 Grove Rd., Au Sable Forks, and will cover insurance. Donations and grants will fund the park’s construction and upkeep. The park honors the memory of Kendall Hartson LeMay, a beloved local mother, friend, and dog lover lost in 2026 to a distracted driver.
